Roads and the Town Center

Every building must touch a road that leads back to the Town Center. How to draw roads, what they cost, and what happens without them.

Why roads matter

The Town Center is the heart of your city: every road starts there, and every building must touch a road that leads back to it. New land is usable only beside a road. A building that loses its road stops working, a site without one stops being built, and a home cut off from the Town Center grows unhappy and empties.

Drawing a road

Tap Road, then drag from a glowing node, or from any open tile, across open land. The road runs straight and then turns once. When you lift your finger, a confirm bar shows the price: tap Build to lay it. Nothing is spent until you do, and a freshly built road can be taken back with Undo.

What roads cost

Roads are paid tile by tile: in wood during the Stone and Bronze Ages, in stone from the Classical Age, and in stone and gold from the Industrial Age on.

Removing a road

Use Demolish and tap the road, or tap it with Inspect and choose Remove road. The road tiles touching the Town Center stay put.
